So this is for all the pro-circumcision people out there. Heres some reasons why it should not be done. 1. Its unethical. The baby has no informed consent in a decision that affects his life. While it can be thought of paternalistic to make this decision for him early on, it is a stark reduction on his autonomy. 2. The campaign of circumcision in the UNITED STATES started to prevent excesive masturbation. I dont feel like writing something longwinded so hears a direct quote. According to Karen Erickson Paige : “In the United States, the current medical rationale for circumcision developed after the operation was in wide practice. The original reason for the surgical removal of the foreskin, or prepuce, was to control ‘masturbatory insanity’ – the range of mental disorders that people believed were caused by the ‘polluting’ practice of ‘self-abuse.’” So while the health reasons now are the prevention of HIV transmission, there is no definitive proof that circumcision prevents this. 3. Im not one to bash religion, but Ive always found it disheartening when religion directly affects what an individual can do with their bodies.
4. For the so called “aesthetic beauty” … fuck that. Humans were born with it for a reason, therefore it has a purpose. Embrace what nature gave us gentleman (AND WOMEN).
5. The reason its automatic in hospitals is that its been done for years, so people think its ok. While I would never relate male circumcision to female circumcision, it is still an operative procedure that is unfairly forced onto males at birth. Babies still feel pain and terror at that stage in life.
People who circumcise believe they have not done any damage to the penis.
Short of showing people giving BJs, masturbation videos could serve to educate. You appear to not really promote not circumcising, yet in the US its fuckin automatic in hospitals.
